Domain Name Auctions See Place Name Extensions for Mega Rich |

ICANN, the commission that controls what plays and what doesn’t in the domain name auctions world instituted a new policy, which is turning a lot of heads. It has to do with a new domain extension that would allow places to purchase URLs such as london.london, dubai.dubai or california.california. The domain name auctions that house such extensions will only be available to the mega rich who have something worth saying.
Millions maybe even billions are the projected prices for such an extension. Those that want to make money buying domain names and can afford such extensions should take them into consideration. Then again, I am not so sure how these kinds of websites would be any more popular than one with the same content but traditional extension at a fraction of the domain value.
The big domain name auctions question now is what are the implications of a person/company buying something like spain.spain that would then give them the rights to the endless amounts of sub-domains that could follow such as travel.spain. Once the extension is purchased that is it, there is only one available per place.
